            Medical coding is the process of converting diagnoses, processes, services, and equipment used in healthcare into universal medical alphanumeric codes.Simply said, this refers to the process of converting crucial medical data into understandable codes in order to maintain medical records and facilitate proper medical invoicing.



Intrnational Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) are the two main categories of medical codes now utilised in healthcare settings. Although there are differences between these classification systems, they all serve the same function, which is to provide consistent documentation between medical facilities.


Having this uniform system makes it possible for medical records to be transferred more easily, for billing to be simplified, and for research and analysis to track health trends to be conducted more quickly.To translate diagnosis and treatment information into standardised codes, a technique called medical coding is used. Additionally, it is the duty of medical coders to maintain correct and up-to-date medical records. In addition, they guarantee that all documentation follows the most recent coding standards.

Using recognised classification systems like the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) system, medical coders examine medical documentation and assign standard codes. Billing, insurance reimbursement, and data monitoring all make use of these codes.
